A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to photograph a very sweet couple at their Jazz-Vintage inspired wedding at the Burlington Iowa Golf Club. The day was a little wet but the weather was great for the middle of March and the clouds in the sky gave us ideal lighting for outdoor portraits. The venue was covered in gold sequence decor set with gorgeous green and white flower arrangements. Lace and pearls popped up throughout the reception venue giving an overall Great Gatsby atmosphere prepped for fun and fancy.
Audra and Karl met at Knox College in the Fall of 2008. Audra was a student athletic trainer and Karl ended up in her care to get his ankle taped. After that initial meeting, mutual friends encouraged them to hang out again at a college party. They are both very easy going and laid back and when I asked Audra how Karl proposed, I could hear the humor through the story. Karl had originally planned a huge elaborate engagement after dating for about 7 years. His original thoughts didn’t pan out so he decided to pop the question at their annual trip to Vegas. Unfortunately, Audra got sun poisoning and was sick most of the time. Karl, feeling defeated, just threw in the towel and spontaneously asked in the middle of the MGM hallway while Audra was taping up her sore feet from walking all day in new shoes. Clearly, some things are best said unexpectedly.
They planned their wedding with a Jazz Age, Vintage, Elegant ambiance and Audra said that a fun prohibition-type attitude because it “felt like prohibition was finally ending after dating for 8 years, lol”. They plan on taking a trip to Banff National Park in Canada this Summer to hike the mountains.
Thank You, Audra and Karl for such a fun wedding to start off my 2017 wedding season!
