I drove into Keokuk not knowing where my couple had plans of taking me for their engagement session. Keokuk was a wealthy little town back in the 1800’s, leaving behind the most amazing historical architecture. The community sits on the Mississippi River in Southeast Iowa and has more to offer than what appears at first site. I’ve been in and out of Keokuk often but during this shoot is when I fell in love with the charm of the little town.
With the help and creativity of Tom and Carissa, we were able to get some incredibly classic images throughout the town. Backdrops included the Mississippi River, The Grand Theater, their 1800’s home, Keokuk’s old train depot and the most amazing abandon church (that will be unfortunately torn down soon). We also added in their dogs and classic British car for personal details.
A little about the couple:
They met in 2009 at a small coffee shop where Carissa worked, and Tom studied on campus at Western Illinois University. Early in the relationship, they both discovered they had a common love interest for desserts. The tradition of surprising each other with treats still goes on years later. He surprised her with a proposal during what was disguised as a Birthday dinner at their favorite restaurant in St. Louis, Sidney Street Cafe.
They are getting married this year in Burlington, Iowa at The Majestic Estate, a perfect venue to go along with their classic engagement session. The colors will be burgundy and gray with gold accents.
I loved everything about this session in all its classic glory. I can’t wait to see the beautiful couple again soon for the wedding day!
