Historic Charming Engagement: Ali + Dustin: Dubuque, Iowa

The story of Ali and Dustin starts with a shared interest in music and Pulp Fiction. The first time they met was in Iowa City in 2013 where they only briefly hung out, but their lasting connection began about a year after that at a music and camping festival in Sioux City, Iowa. An inseparable weekend together made a lasting impression on both of them, and they knew it was a spark they couldn’t ignore.

Over the last three years, Ali and Dustin’s continued to connect through their shared love for music, dancing, laughing and cooking together. They began to create memories together in the midst of falling in love. Dustin impressed Ali by making his “famous bruschetta”. They learned how to get through questionable situations together while literally getting lost in NYC and being able to end a scary moment with a laugh. They traveled and dined together at places like the Picasso overlooking the Bellagio fountains in Vegas on Ali’s birthday.

Together again in Las Vegas, Ali and Dustin were enjoying a night out at The Four Queens Casino. They were in town with a group of 20 of their closest friends all celebrating a joined bachelor/bachelorette party. The engagement was completely unplanned and spontaneous as Dustin got down on one knee and asked Ali to marry him. After calling both of their families, they headed out to celebrate the news with all of their friends!

When it came time for the engagement session, Ali and Dustin knew they wanted their photographs in the Fall with a combination of casual and classy. They chose Dubuque, Iowa where they had recently had a date night and fell in love with the history and charm of the city. We were able to get a nice mixture of modern elements and historic charm while drinking wine all around the Port of Dubuque area.

I will be seeing Ali and Dustin again for their Fall 2018 wedding at Celebration Farm! The barn is full of a comforting cedar aroma, and they are going for a warm, intimate theme with slight touches of vintage details. The colors will be Navy, Burgundy with touches of Gold.

Ali and Dustin, Thank You for inviting me to Dubuque for such great locations and ideas! You are such a kind, fun and beautiful couple! Can’t wait to work with you again for your wedding!
