I wish I would have wrote a little each day to remember all the little things and big things. However, between the long flight, getting used to the other side of the road driving, figuring out the GPS, me fearing for my life constantly because the roads are sooooo narrow and curvy, visiting pubs and just soaking up every single bit of every view … there was just no time for writing. So join me as I try to recall my feelings, thoughts and memories as I start to post the photos from a week in Ireland.

First, I have to take a moment to introduce the man in the photos… Jacob… my luggage handler, driver, photography assistant, drinking partner, fellow food critic, explorer of the countryside but most of all handsome, up for anything, fun & incredibly loving boyfriend. He made the journey to Ireland with me and there is absolutely no way I could have done it with such ease and wanderlust without him. Thank You, Jacob, for joining me on this Ireland adventure.

7.5 Hour flight with Aer Lingus, non stop from Chicago. I LOVED this Airline! Clean, nice, decent food, personal movie screens and headphones. And they personally rushed us through customs on the way home because we were late! (my fault, I forgot our passports at hotel, i know i know) The first time being late actually paid off.

Rental car, check. Opposite side of road, check. GPS, check. Now a 3 hour drive to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland. We rented car from Dan Dooley which is a local Ireland car rental service.

Arrived to the first stop: Ardaghmore Bed and Breakfast in Ballycastle, Co Antrim, United Kingdom. This part of Ireland is UK, so the $ is in lbs. which I did not think of beforehand. The B & B was a gorgeous old home with so much charm. Full of the family’s personal touch and history, the multi-story home overlooked the ocean with a view of Scotland. This part of the country was entirely worth the trip and included my favorite views.

The Castle Bar. Our very first Pub stop where we met, Carla, and remain friends with her via the world wide web to this day. She was a beauty with the most perfect Irish accent you could ever imagine. The pub was empty on a Thursday afternoon, but it was still early. She informed us that we would run into a lot more people later that night or into the weekend. Here is where we discovered Carlsberg beer. We asked her what her favorite drink was and she delightfully said Jack Daniels. We did not expect her to say an American whiskey, lol. She gave us suggestions for other stops and food joints and we were on our way. If you are reading this, ” Hi Carla!”

After 7.5 hours on plane, 3 hours driving and a few hours walking around town, we decided to take a nap … finally. I was pleasantly surprised waking up around 10pm and it was still light out.

Next Day: Walk to the beach, get coffee, take photographs of the bay. The weather was wonderful but the forecast called for rain. Our day was packed full with my list of must see places.

Day 2: My day of sight seeing. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Giant’s Causeway, old cemeteries, The Dark Hedges and unexpected castle ruins. The best way to describe it is mysteriously romantic. A dark but beautiful atmosphere of so much history you can feel it in your bones. A viking type of energy. Amazing colors that changed along with the sunlight, temperature falling and rising with the change of wind, miles and miles of grass that felt like a golf course. A breathtaking crisp, clean, refreshing , pure ocean air. Take me back.

It was about this time that Jake did not want his picture taken anymore.
